What is an AI Twin
An AI Twin is a public assistant built on one professional's approved knowledge. It answers in their scope, cites its sources and declines the rest. Here is how it works, how it differs from a chatbot or a digital twin, and how a professional creates one.

An AI Twin is an assistant that answers on behalf of one named professional, using only the material that professional has approved. It has a public address, it carries the owner's name, and everything it says can be traced back to a source the owner stands behind.
That is the whole idea in one sentence. The rest of this article explains what follows from it.
How an AI Twin differs from a chatbot
A general chatbot is trained on the open internet. It will attempt almost any question, and it sounds equally assured whether the answer is solid or invented. Nobody is accountable for what it says.
An AI Twin inverts that. The knowledge base is small, deliberate and owned. The answers point at documents. The scope is set by a person whose reputation is attached to the result, which is why the Twin is allowed to say no.
How an AI Twin differs from a digital twin
A digital twin, in engineering, is a live simulation of a physical asset such as a turbine, a factory line or a building. It mirrors equipment.
An AI Twin mirrors expertise. It does not simulate a person, claim to be a person, or predict what the owner would say. It makes an existing body of professional knowledge available to ask, at any hour, in the owner's voice and within limits the owner sets.
The three behaviours that make it credible
- It cites. Every substantive answer names the approved source behind it, so a reader can check.
- It stays within scope. The owner decides which subjects are in, which are out, and who may ask.
- It knows when not to answer. Outside its scope it declines plainly and routes the visitor back to the owner.
It cites. It stays within scope. It knows when not to answer.
Who creates one
Advisors, researchers, clinicians, authors, executives and educators. The pattern is consistent: a person whose knowledge is in demand, whose time is finite, and whose answers need to stay accurate when they are not in the room.
How to create an AI Twin
- Create an account and choose your public name. That name becomes your Twin's address.
- Approve your first sources. Five documents you would be comfortable seeing quoted in public beat fifty you have not reviewed.
- Set the scope. Name the subjects the Twin covers, and say what it should decline.
- Set the voice and a few example questions, so visitors know where to start.
- Publish the link, then read the questions people actually ask and approve the next sources from what you find.
Most people are live within an afternoon. The work that matters is the source selection, not the setup.
What it does not do
An AI Twin does not replace your judgment, your client relationships or your professional responsibility. Answers are generated by AI, and important decisions should still be verified against the cited sources or with you directly. When a question calls for the expert, the Twin says so.
You cannot be everywhere. Your knowledge can.
